I'm moving to Los Angeles / by Joseph Palumbo

Let's start with the punchline: I'm moving to Los Angeles, California.

Now, let's work our way backwards through the setup.

I've been unemployed working as as comedian full-time for about 8 months now. And while this has truly been one of the most fulfilling times of my life, I think it might be time for me to go back to work. I'm an achievement junky. I like to build things and tinker with how to grow a business. And I've been getting antsy.

Enter Media Temple.

They were my very first hosting company. Where I hosted the now defunct eponymous josephpalumbo.net. Even though there were (and still are) a lot of options for hosting, Media Temple seemed to be hosting world's equivalent of the "cool kid's table" in the lunch room of the Internet. They worked with Starbucks and Nike. Also, all of my favorite tech blogs were hosted on Media Temple.

One of their recruiters contacted me anonymously via LinkedIn - something that would normally cause me to involuntarily delete the message. But when I saw it was from Media Temple, I struck up a conversation. A few emails, a few phone calls, and a lot of video conferences, I'm now proudly part of the Media Temple team.

If we're friends IRL, I'm sure you've got a few questions. Trust me, so do I. I'm still working out the details, but here's what I know so far.

FAQ

Q: When is your first day at Media Temple?
A: January 9th

Q: What's your job at Media Temple?
A: I will be responsible for building a strong customer success program there. Something I've done before.

Q: When will you be moving to Los Angeles?
A: Best case scenario, I'll be living their by February 9th.

Q: What about Liz and the kids?
A: Initially, it will be just me making the move. We don't want to jump into anything that can't be easily undone. They will obviously spend as much time with me as they can stand, but they will still live in San Antonio until we can find the right house/neighborhood/etc. in Los Angeles.

Q: What about comedy?
A: Well, it will have to take a backseat for a while, but I'll be in LA so why wouldn't I still do comedy.

I'll add some more to the FAQ as soon as more information becomes avaialble.
